North East Adventure Tourism Is Creating New Opportunities to Explore

NEAT's interactive map helps you discover adventure businesses across Aberdeenshire. Whether you love MTB, gravel or road biking, it’s an easy way to find great trails and the local experts who bring them to life. Here are a few to start you off:

Mountain Biking Trail Centres

Tarland Trails – Drummy Woods & Pittenderich

Tarland is one of the North East’s flagship MTB destinations, offering purpose‑built trails for beginners through to advanced riders. The original Drummy Woods trails cater to entry‑level and intermediate riders, while the newer Pittenderich trails deliver sweeping turns, big berms, jumps, and technical riding — ideal for levelling up your skills.

Banchory Woodland Trails – Deeside Bike Collective

A community‑driven trail network with flowy woodland lines, technical features, and routes suitable for all abilities. Deeside MTB also offers guided rides and bespoke coaching sessions for beginners through to experts.

Greenmyres Farm – Huntly

Greenmyres offers access to trails, lochside activities like canoeing and paddle boarding, and even has an eco‑bothy on site - making it a great multi‑sport day out.

Road Cycling: Aberdeenshire Ascents

If you prefer tarmac to trails, Aberdeenshire is home to some of Scotland’s most rewarding climbs. NEAT’s Aberdeenshire Ascents directory highlights routes that take you through valleys, over rolling hills, and into big‑view landscapes - ideal for a long day out from your VDub base.

Urban Adventure: Transition Extreme

Transition Extreme is a charity‑run adventure sports centre in Aberdeen offering climbing, bouldering, skate, BMX facilities, and indoor challenges - great for a rainy day or a half‑day session before heading back to the van.

Coaching & Guiding Providers

Whether you’re new to biking or looking to sharpen your skills, the North East has loads of expert guides and coaches. NEAT’s directory will help you find locals who know the hidden gems, the quiet trails, and the best coffee stops making your adventure safer, smoother, and lots more fun.

Pick dates, choose a van, pop down the deposit…

...and you’re well on your way to making memories!
